Street Photography Cuba – 2019

By April 20th, 2023No Comments

In December 2019 I journey to Cuba on my own, for 10 days of street photography in Havana and the suburbs.  I tried to wander around without maps and just get to know the place.   I started each day early, stopped for lunch and photographed into the evening.  Most of my photographs were taken with a 35mm lens and my mirrorless Z6, shooting from the hip. Each day I walked around 13 miles as I roamed around looking for interesting events.  The Cuban people generally don’t mind being photographed and are usually happy for you to photograph their children playing.  There are characters to be avoided on the streets and not a good idea to be persuaded to follow someone.  I would say it is generally a safe place to photograph.  Life is carried out on the streets and very little is hidden away, making it ideal for street photography.

I find Street Photography helps train my eye for wedding photography and I found this trip challenging and rewarding.
